Sarah Tew was born in Maine and raised in Georgia. She is a New York-based documentary photographer who specializes in the artful documentation of people and places. Her experience teaching in New York City’s public schools fueled her interest in illustrating the tenuous lives of inner-city struggle through photographs.
Tew utilizes photography to tell the stories of marginalized people and the strength of community. Photography has taken her to Bosnia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands and Slovakia, among other countries. By embedding herself in day-to-day life, Tew has explored projects ranging from studies of intentional communities, home schooling families, burlesque dancers and dominatrixes, and the current national political climate.
Tew continues to establish a name for herself in New York’s competitive creative scene. Her work has been published in The New York Times, Timeout NY, Farmhouse Magazine, and Papierdoll Magazine.
