Each year Grassroots Initiative works with hundreds of elected officials ranging from low-level political party seats to the U.S. House of Representatives. This includes candidates from all parties, including both incumbents and challengers. Whereas all of these candidates are worthy of attention, we are pleased to congratulate the following candidates who were recently elected (or re-elected) during the November 2009 election.
In New York City, businesses recruit employees, the NYPD recruits police officers, and the FDNY recruits fire fighters-similarly, Grassroots Initiative actively recruits first-time candidates to run for political office.
There is no shortage of dynamic, capable and well-established community leaders in this country; yet rarely are these individuals the same people who seek elected office. For many, the obstacles seem too great. First-time candidates are regularly thrown off the ballot because they cannot navigate the political bureaucracy or respond to ballot challenges.
Grassroots Initiative is proud of the community leaders with whom we work who have stepped up to serve their communities, often against all odds.
