2008 New York City & State Elections

In 2008, New Yorkers will elect all of their State Assembly and State Senate representatives. Additionally, Democrats will be electing party officials throughout the city - offices that play a critical role in recruiting and endorsing candidates for public office and in shaping public policy priorities. There are County Committee seats up for election in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens, as well as District Leader (the next step up) and State Committee positions in all five boroughs. These are party positions, as opposed to public offices, so elections for these positions are held during the Primary Elections in September.

In the 2008 election cycle, the petitioning process where candidates gather signatures from voters in their district begins on June 3rd. Petitions must be filed with the Board of Elections between July 7th and July 10th.
